The FHS Music Department will host its fall concert on Monday, October 13, at 7 p.m. in the Faribault High School auditorium. The evening will feature performances by the choir, band, and orchestra.
To get a preview of the event, I spoke with several choir students about their preparations. Although I wasn’t able to interview anyone from the band or orchestra, the choir offered insight into the excitement and challenges leading up to the performance.
Skye Peterson, a member of the choir, shared that the group is preparing three songs. “One of the pieces requires everyone to keep a steady beat, which has been tricky for some of us,” Skye explained. “We’re also still working on memorizing another song, but we’re practicing really hard to make sure the concert goes well.”
Another student, Colin Haefs, said that his class feels confident. “We’re pretty prepared,” Colin said, adding with a smile, “Shoutout to Ben Diaz-Coons, our cellist!” Colin expressed gratitude for Ben’s hard work and enthusiasm about his upcoming performance.
While I was speaking with Colin, Kai Houghtelin, a ninth grader, walked past on his way home and called out, “As a band kid, I can say that choir is cool!” Though he didn’t have time for a full interview, Kai wanted to make sure his excitement for the concert was included.
From the choir’s determined rehearsals to the enthusiasm of students across the department, it’s clear that anticipation for Monday’s performance is high. The choir, band, and orchestra will all take the stage, showcasing weeks of preparation and dedication.
The concert begins at 7 p.m. at Faribault High School, and the entire community is invited to attend. Don’t miss this chance to support FHS musicians as they share their hard work and talent.
