On Monday, November 3rd, eight gymnasts gathered in the high school cafeteria to learn about the Gymnastics Team. If you didn’t make the meeting, it’s not too late! The first day of practice is November 10th. For more information talk to the head coach, Larissa Rasmussen, or assistant coach Thomas Smith.
Are you wondering why you should join gymnastics? Echo writer Gaby Olivo talked to longtime gymnast Abby Laliberty to find out. Abby started gymnastics at age 5, and hasn’t stopped since. Here’s some snippets from their conversation:
Gaby: Why should other people care about gymnastics?
Abby: Gymnastics isn’t just a physical sport, it’s a mental sport too. Plus, you’re always being judged by other people to get what they call professional or perfection. So it’s very taxing on mental health, and for people to do the sport, I think, is very courageous.
Gaby: Tell me about your favorite part of competing and why?
Abby: My favorite part of competing is just cheering other people on. I know it’s cliche, but cheering for your teammates really helps live in the mood.
Gaby: What are you excited for this season, and why?
Abby: We’re going to have more girls this year for the team. So that’s always exciting. Doubles our chances, and we have more opportunities, and just looking forward to all the laughs we’re going to get in.
If you think gymnastics may be right for you, remember to talk to the coaches or go to practice on November 10th!
